Bongo

The “Bongo” Hostel is hidden in a quiet courtyard between Balkanska and Terazije streets — just a few minutes from the famous Hotel “Moskva”. The interior is styled in cheerful Scandinavian minimalism with floral patterns on the walls, a homely furnished lounge area, and a small kitchen where unlimited tea and coffee are available. Visitors praise the staff, good Wi-Fi, and the availability of a dishwasher.

Staying in a mixed-gender dormitory with five or six beds will cost around two thousand dinars, and if you’re traveling to Belgrade as a couple, confidently opt for a private room with a double bed — it will be approximately the same price (around four thousand dinars). It’s just a few minutes’ walk to Republic Square and the National Museum, and for a good cup of coffee, head down Balkanska Street to the trendy “Mali Prag”.

Fair And Square

“Fair And Square” is located away from the city center, in the Zvezdara district. Here you’ll find bright and cozy rooms, sometimes adorned with graffiti (even on the ceiling), and unique industrial lamps connected by hefty cables. The spacious kitchen with large wooden tables on the ground floor doubles as a common area where you can even play PlayStation. A separate pride of the hostel is its large stylish courtyard adorned with numerous graffiti on the walls. Additionally, apart from the guests, “Fair And Square” is home to local favorites — Fritz the dog and Alfred the cat.

To reach the main city attractions, you’ll need to take a bus, but a bed in an eight-bed dormitory will only cost you a thousand dinars, while a private room with a double bed and ensuite bathroom will be three times more expensive. Overall, “Fair And Square” is an excellent choice if you’re not visiting Belgrade for the first time and you’re tired of Dorćol — it’s a stone’s throw away from the less touristy Vračar district: visit the Nikola Tesla Museum or one of the best Belgrade markets — Kalenić.

Cabbage

The “Cabbage” Hostel is located in a cozy and tourist-free area called Professor’s Colony, in a 90-year-old villa. In the 1920s, professors from the University of Belgrade began settling here. The two-story wooden beds are equipped with dense green curtains, offering a pleasant view of the peaceful green courtyard from the building’s windows. Reproductions of Jan Vermeer and Valentin Serov hang in the lounge area. Barbecues are occasionally prepared on the terrace, where guests can also play darts and watch movies. In the mornings, “Cabbage” serves vegetarian breakfasts, for which there is an additional charge.

Within walking distance, you’ll find the luxurious Jevremovac Botanical Garden, and in about 15 minutes, you can reach the gastronomic hub of Skadarlija. Getting to Kalemegdan will require taking a bus, but there’s an alternative — you can rent a bicycle directly from the hostel. One night in a six-bed dormitory at “Cabbage” will cost just under 3,000 dinars. There are options available for separate accommodation for women and men.

Good People

Affordable hostel in the center of Dorćol. The rooms at “Good People” somewhat resemble capsule hotels — pristine minimalist blocks of bunk beds with built-in personal lockers, lamps, and individual sockets. On the ground floor of the hostel, there’s a small kitchen and a common room, while the greenery-filled courtyard, perfect for coworking, features numerous tables, chairs, canopies, and a spacious gazebo. The hostel organizes weekly city tours, regularly hosts family dinners, and parties. By the way, at “Good People”, you can stay with your furry friend.

A bed in a shared dormitory for one night will cost around 2,000 dinars. There are also options available for double and family (up to 5 people) private rooms. The hostel provides airport transfer services, bicycle, and car rentals. The main pedestrian street, Kneza Mihaila, is just a few minutes’ walk away. And if you decide to head down to the Danube, you’ll stumble upon the trendy gastronomic cluster with excellent bars and restaurants, Gastrošor”.

Beograđanka

Hostel “Beogradjanka” is located opposite the eponymous skyscraper in a historical building from the early 19th century. It features several rooms, a spacious kitchen, and a common area adorned with paintings, randomly placed flower pots, and even a mini-library with books in various languages. A charming balcony with flowers, tables, and garden furniture overlooks the quiet inner courtyard.

For a night in a room with six beds, you’ll pay around 1500 dinars, while a separate room with a double or two single beds will cost you 3500-4000 dinars. It’s about a ten-minute walk to Republic Square. There are plenty of good cafes around (start with “Tamper” or “Svetozar”), and nearby is one of Belgrade’s oldest confectioneries, Petković”.
